Peek Inside My Mother’s Diaries for True Stories, Personal Essays, Home Movies, and even a Podcast. Vintage Vibe and Laughs Included.

Based on my mother’s vintage diaries, our daily lives, and our relationship, Lynn and her daughter Hilary want you to know:

Our stories are true.

Relatable.

Sometimes wacky, sometimes unbelievable.

Mostly funny.

Sometimes serious.

Content includes photos, home movie clips, props, artifacts, and a little feature we call The Story Behind The Story.

The Story Behind The Story will follow most of our posts and should give you a few more laughs and some insight into our creative process. We hope it will add a little something to your reading experience and maybe even inspire you to compose and share your own tales.

About Lynn

For more than fifty years, I’ve recorded mischief, angst, cringe, and foolishness in my diary entries, In 1968 when I scribbled my first entry in my little red diary with the golden key lock, I never could have imagined that my diary – my muse, my shrink, my then best friend – would someday strengthen my bonds with my daughter, or that my adolescent words would become a source of reverberating hilarity my daughter and I would share with so many.

For 44 years I taught Maine middle schoolers to read and write. I loved it. While I miss the chaos, the stories, and my hilarious kiddos, thanks to my retirement, I now get to spend my days collaborating with my daughter Hilary, as we plumb my diaries and Super 8 home movies for content, and which we then use as inspiration for our social media, our videos and photographs, our podcast, and the true tales we craft and share.

I've written dozens of articles, essays and true stories, a mix of funny and serious, which have appeared in local, state and national publications.

About Hilary

Hey! It’s me. The Hilary mentioned above.

I’m 34, flirty? and only kind of thriving.

If you stuck me in an x-ray machine at age 10, 23, or in this very moment, you’d find my bones are made of nostalgia (and my brain, a puzzle).

I spent my days off from elementary school running down the street to my Great Aunt Jane’s consignment shop in Surry, Maine to see how much money I had made that week. Only to spend it immediately on some random, new-to-me vintage piece that wasn’t my size. That’s where I first fell in love with the lore of vintage fashion.

Through my unwavering nostalgic inclinations, I have built a career as a photographer. Capturing moments on film through 35mm and Super 8 movies has expanded my love of storytelling. That’s what nostalgia really is at its core, right? Endless stories. Some told and some yet to be told.

It’s only natural that my mom and I came together to archive our histories...loudly and in many odd ways.

My mom is the writer, I’m the visualizer. Together we hope to create a space where you can let your shoulders down, relax, laugh and relate.
